To Haiti Tomorrow!

This is Trina, and in the effort to launch off, not only my sister, Kristen, but also to launch off a blog for this wonderful gal, I am sitting here at Clemson University's student center typing before she departs tomorrow morning at 7am from the Atlanta airport to the Miami airport and finally... to the Port Au Prince airport in Haiti.

Kristen, along with 8 other volunteers, will be teaching in the city of Port Au Prince at a Catholic boarding school, named Louverture Cleary School--LCS. This safe haven of a school for many an impoverished student will be her first shot at a carreer track out of college; and she will fly!

LCS provides a free education for Haitian students, grades 6th-13th. You're welcome to check out more details at the school's website--http://www.haitianproject.org/.

Kristen received her degree in Elementary education from Clemson University this past May after spending the majority of the previous school year student teaching at nearby elementary schools. I'm most certain these skills she has honed will fabricate the lesson plans she'll use to teach and inspire the children she'll work with in Haiti.

So, how'd she find out about Haiti's LCS, eh?
The Deacon of our nearby Catholic Church in Clemson, St. Andrew's, by popular demand, provided the students of the Campus Ministry with weekly theology discussions. During which he introduced to us and referred to, on several occasions, the work he does in Haiti as the President of LCS. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the influence of the Deacon's "visionary vivacity," he was able to scoop up the attention and the application of 3 of St. Andrew's seniors who attended the discussions, including Kristen, Elissa Kergosein, and Meg Smith (all graduated seniors as of last May and even of today--Congrats MEG!). Needless to say, all 3 girls are leaving for their life-changing journey tomorrow.

Kristen will be teaching Art and lower level (6th and 7th grade) English at LCS. After being able to discuss with her the extravagence and uniquness of teaching Art in a 3rd world country...I am overwhelmed with pride and eagerness to hear how this year will begin for her--Can you die of happiness!? :)
